Last Tuesday, the Year 2s were able to go on our very first school trip of 2022! As part of their study on rocks and minerals, the Year 2 visited the Singapore quarry and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. We are incredibly lucky that Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and quarry is just a short walk across the road.
Before starting the trail, Ms Richards gave a safety briefing to all children and teachers; explaining the route, agenda and DOs & DON’Ts for the day. Though extremely excited, the children gave their fullest attention to Ms Richards during this important briefing.
After which, the children were split into four different groups where they were tasked to come up with a group name and some reminders to follow when going on a school trip. We had some excellent answers such as ‘being gentle to all living things’ and ‘drinking lots of water’.
…. and finally we are off!
At our first stop, the Singapore quarry, the children enjoyed comparing pictures of the quarry from the 1970s to now, spotting wildlife on the nature trail and collecting rock samples to test back in the lab.
There was also a playground with a zip line near the quarry and our children definitely had the time of their lives attempting the zip line countless of times.
After a snack, the pupils set out to climb Bukit Timah hill, the highest natural peak in Singapore. A great deal of stamina was needed to complete the trek in the morning heat, and despite a few ‘are we there yet?!’, the pupils did a fabulous job of staying positive and encouraging each other.

We all enjoyed a well-earned ice cream on our return to school!
